First of all, why would you ever change your name to Tregembo Animal Park when you were once called Tote-Em-In Zoo? But what exactly were they toting in? Animals? Visitors? Ems?

We've never actually gone inside the Tregembo Animal Park and although visitors' reviews of the place seem very mixed, we couldn't pass up any building that makes you go through a giant mouth to enter.

  1. I live down the road from this attraction. It was purchased by the Tregembo family in the 80's, but the name of the business had to be changed due to legal complications. It's well-kept for a privately-owned zoo, the negative reviews are from people used to multi-million dollar state or city-owned zoos. It's not a patch compared to the Houston Zoo, for example, but it is clean and the animals are well cared for. The place was originally famous for the Asian elephant they had throughout the 60's and 70's that the previous owner had bought from a circus, its' pen was in front of the place, and seen by every kid who drove to Carolina or Kerr Beach with their parents on vacation during their boardwalk heyday.

    1. Thanks for letting us know, Walter! I have heard it has a pretty cool gift shop.

    2. It was not so much a pen, the elephant was roadside with a chain around it’s leg to attract passersby’s.

    3. The gift shop is a lot larger than the cages they keep the large exotic animals in.

    4. I am ashamed that I ever took my children there. The cats especially and I think a bear were in horrible enclosures. It has nothing to do with the big zoos…any animal in captivity should be allowed better living conditions than those poor animals.

  2. I have been there and it is horrible. Nothing to do with multi milion shit. The enclosures are extremely small and it is the feeling of many that it is flat out animal abuse. Do not take the other person... there are people out there that will over look animal abuse to see the exotic.

  3. Add another mark in the horrible column. Been there as well, and awful place for any animal to be kept. Really should be shut down. And also, nothing to do with multi million shit either. Please don't support that kind of animal abuse.
