Adam Ant brought his Anthems tour to a packed Fillmore Charlotte on September 22nd. The crowd was a mix of young and old, Adam virgins and people who had been to tons of his shows, but everyone had one thing in common: they were ready to have a great time and listen to Adam's nearly endless parade of hits.

Adam kicked off the show with "Beat My Guest" from the Ants' Kings Of The Wild Frontier album. It was immediately apparent that the man strutting up to the microphone did not show his age. Adam was spry, hopping and twirling around the stage at every opportunity, feeding off the crowd's fervor for his music.

The set featured hits like "Antmusic" and "Stand And Deliver" that took full advantage of his dual drummers, Andy Woodard and the hypnotic Jola. The rest of the band, Will Crewdson on lead guitar, Joe Holweger on bass, and A.P. Leach on rhythm guitar, were electric and you would've thought all five had been playing these songs for decades.

The entire set was an impressive twenty-one songs before giving way to a four-song encore which was bookended by radio hit "Goody Two Shoes" and fan favorite "Physical (You're So)." Along the way, Adam and his band played hit after hit from his impressive career. There are only a few US dates remaining on the Anthems Tour and if you have the means, we highly recommend checking one of them out!

  1. These are fantastic! First three songs, no flash rule be damned. I’m a little stunned at how youthful he looks but now I’ll be looking into catching him live at some point.

  2. I'm stunned how no one noticed how BAD the sound was!
