I first learned of Night Club in 2014 when we premiered their video for "She Wants To Play With Fire" on our old music blog. I instantly became hooked, but had never been able to see them live because they had never made it to North Carolina. All that changed Wednesday night when Night Club brought their gothic synth sounds to Greensboro's Blind Tiger as part of Combichrist's Everybody Still Hates You Tour.

Night Club is singer Emily Kavanaugh and producer Mark Brooks. A lot of electronic bands get a bad wrap for not putting on great shows. But we knew even before the band hit the stage, when we saw Kavanaugh doing stretches and limbering up, that this was going to be an awesome, energetic show. Kavanaugh jumped around, danced, shouted to the crowd, and writhed on the ground while Brooks worked his keyboard/computer set-up like a darkwave mad scientist.

The band played through a short, but powerful seven-song set that included new tracks like "Candy Coated Suicide" and old favorites like "Dear Enemy" and "Bad Girl," which made for a powerful finale. However, for us the standout track of the night was "Pray" from 2016's Requiem For Romance.

Night Club is currently down in Florida and will be taking the show to Texas, Vegas, and California before going overseas.
