I remember our yearly family trips to Myrtle Beach growing up, reading the many South Of The Border billboards that dotted the landscape (they're still there, but nowhere as numerous), until the giant sombrero appeared on the horizon.

And then my whining would begin. "Mom! Dad! Let's stop!"

"They have a Reptile Lagoon!"

"They have fireworks!"

"They have futuristic hotels from the '70s!"

"They have a giant spark plug covered in bumper stickers!"

"And a giant shark!"

"Can we at least stop and use the restroom?"

My wife and I took the long way home from Myrtle Beach last summer to let the kids experience South Of The Border. They climbed on a few of the fiberglass animals, but were generally unimpressed. Did they want to visit the Reptile Lagoon? No. The hotel? No. The spark plug? No. They were more interested in getting back on the road and back home.

Oh well.

I tried, Pedro.
