If you traveled on 40/85 through the Triad on a regular basis twenty years ago, you probably remember the giant PET milk carton in front of Flav-O-Rich near the Burlington Outlet Village in Burlington. It's been gone for some time, but we heard there was a similar carton in Eden, so we had to go check it out.
Needless to say, I was a little disappointed to find out it didn't rotate like the one in Burlington did. It's also not slightly askew like the one in Burlington. But other than that, it looked exactly the same as the one I had stored in my head. In fact, as I was getting out of the car to snap a few pictures, a man came out from the side of the store. I asked him if I could take a few pictures because it reminded me of a milk carton I used to see in Burlington. Turns out the guy was Todd Vernon, owner of Vernon Family Dairy. He used to work at the Flav-O-Rich/PET location in Burlington and asked for the giant carton as his "parting gift" when the place closed down.

So for those of you playing along at home, the giant, 54-year-old PET milk carton in Eden is the same one that was previously found alongside the interstate in Burlington. It always makes the roadside excursions more rewarding when you learn a little history along the way. At least for me anyway.
The milk carton has since been painted to reflect the current dairy responsible for the milk production.
