As I was taking photos of the Thunderbird Motor Inn sign last summer, a very tired-looking waitress made her way to her car, no doubt after a grueling breakfast shift. I asked her if she came across many people taking pictures of the sign. She told me if they were able to charge people for the privilege of taking a photo of the iconic sign, they probably wouldn't need the restaurant.
And in case you're wondering what word is missing from the sign, it's Kitchen.
