The coffee pot at the Countryside Village Retirement Community in Stokesdale, NC could once be found on the roof of a Stokesdale diner. We imagine Cordova's Coffee Pot resembles what that Stokesdale restaurant once looked like.

Emily and Frederick Griffin opened Cordova's Coffee Pot diner in the 1950s and proudly served travelers along Highway 301 until I-95 opened in the late 70s and siphoned traffic from 301. The building languished in disrepair and in 2013, gusty winds blew the 250-pound icon off the building's roof. According to The Times & Democrat, current owner Thomas Gray took this as a cue to fix up the building, repair the roof, and put the Coffee Pot back on its perch.

Which he did.

But he didn't reopen the diner. Instead, it is used for something totally different.

Can you guess what?

If you guessed it's currently being used as a child's dollhouse/tea party room, you're correct!

  1. I passed by here a a few years ago and then again last weekend. Seeing the lifesize dolls from the highway was cute but it also creeped me out. So I took the time to research on the internet just what I saw. Hopefully, now that I know more it won't be in my nightmares.
