June Divided will be performing at Raleigh's IMURJ on August 28th, four days after they release their debut EP, Body Wars. To get you pumped for both, bassist Lenny Sasso sat down with us to talk about June Divided's life out on the road.

Describe your music for our readers who may not be familiar with you.
Somewhere between rock, alt, indie, pop and electro.

What's the first concert you attended?
Blink-182/Green Day, NSYNC, Rufio/Senses Fail, and Creed. You can try to guess which band member went to what show, hah.

What's the strangest gig you've played?
In Orlando on a tour last year, there was a crazy rain storm. The venue ended up flooding mid-show. We had to stop the show and lift all the gear up onto tables. The water kept rising and the bartenders just started giving out shots to anyone left in the venue. It was pretty wild. That was an experience for the books.

What's the craziest thing a fan has done at one of your shows?
When we were first starting out, we had a very small crowd at a show. One dude insisted on crowd-surfing. This was hilarious because not only are we not the kind of band you really crowd-surf to, but also because the crowd wasn't big enough for anyone to surf on in the first place. It was great.

What's the first thing you look for when you hit a new town?
The bar. And new friends, of course!

How do you spend your days on the road?
Sometimes we stop at cool parks/attractions. Sometimes we just stop at various rest stops. Sometimes we try to get the harmonies to "Take Me Home Country Roads" just right. (We haven't yet.)

Do you have any pre-show rituals?
Not really. Usually, it's pretty hectic. It's rare we have extra time on our hands, but when we do, one of the nicest things to do is to just a have a beer together and hang, just the four of us.

What's some advice you'd give to a band embarking on its first tour?
If you find time for a nap, take it. Drive safe, and promote the hell out of it!

Final question: You're the opening act of a music festival. You can get any five artists, living or dead, to perform on the bill with you. Which five acts do you choose and what song do you all perform together for the final jam?
Queen, Michael Jackson, Mutemath, Lady Gaga and Fleetwood Mac. We'd all play "I Want You Back" by Jackson 5 in each of our own styles.
