The Tail of the Dragon is an 11-mile stretch of Highway 129 that resembles a dragon's tail and runs from the North Carolina/Tennessee border to Tennessee's Chilhowee Lake. It is a very treacherous stretch of road and drivers will encounter 318 curves over those 11 miles.

Because of this, the Tail of the Dragon is a magnet to motorcyclists and sports car enthusiasts. The Tail of the Dragon has claimed 47 casualties from 2000 to 2019 from far more wrecks. Riders bring wreckage from their motorcycle accidents on the Tail of the Dragon to the Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort and hang it on the Tree Of Shame. We have no idea how many different motorcycles are represented on that tree or if they remove items from time to time.
