When I was a kid, I was fascinated by In Search Of and Ripley's Believe It or Not! I would tune in every week, hanging onto Leonard Nimoy's every word. I would pore over volumes of Ripley's Believe Or Not! every night before bed. I was fascinated with Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, the Yeti, Ogopogo, the Jersey Devil, the Mothman, mermaids, chupacabras... all those guys. I often wondered if I'd ever come face to face with something from those pages. I wanted to see a cryptid.

Last week, it finally happened...

I have never really gone on a proper ghost hunting or Bigfoot hunting excursion (But we're up for it! Contact us at strangecarolinas@gmail.com if you want us to tag along). I'm one of those who keeps an eye open while he's doing something else. I'll be walking through the woods with some other objective in mind, but listening for Bigfoot the entire time. If I was ever to come across a cryptid, I would be the guy with nothing but blurry photos, shaky video, or probably nothing at all because I wasn't prepared.

For once, though, I was...

Actually, I lied.

We had gone hunting for this particular cryptid before. Twice, in fact. We scoured the area it was known to inhabit, listened to the villagers who swore they'd seen one, only to come up empty-handed on both occasions.

Finally, on Sunday, November 4th, we were driving along when our co-piloted screamed "THERE'S ONE!"

We had not been looking for the cryptid on this particular trip, so I had no idea what the "ONE" was that she was carrying on about. Finally, she yelled "LOOK!" and pointed.

And then I saw it.

A white squirrel.

They do exist.
