In 2011, artist Steven Willingham turned Ashe County Cheese's milk tanks into a bonafide roadside attraction. The Ashe County High School welding class and its instructor Rusty Rogers turned Willingham's vision into a reality and now Ashe County Cheese has three giant cows greeting folks in downtown West Jefferson. According to Our State, the cow tanks are 23 feet long.
