Kyd The Band was in North Carolina last week opening for NF. We caught up with singer/songwriter Devin Guisande to talk about life on the road.

Describe your music for our readers who may not be familiar with you.
I say it's urban rock, but really if you're a human being and have ears, it's for you.

What's the first concert you attended?
I believe it was a Christian artist named Carmen.

What's the strangest gig you've played?
A Christmas gig at an antique consignment store.

What's the craziest thing a fan has done/said at one of your shows?
"Do you believe in spirits? Cause while you were performing there was one around you. I saw it."

What's the first thing you look for when you hit a new town?
Best restaurant in town per amount of Yelp reviews to stars ratio.

How do you spend your days on the road?
When there are long drive days I think of a lot of new song ideas. And I also try to learn as much as I can, about whatever. I don't get a lot of time to myself anymore so I really value this time.

Do you have any pre-show rituals?
Yeah, before the show I usually try to leave the venue and do something that makes me forget I’m about to play a show haha.

What's some advice you'd give to a band embarking on its first tour?
If you're the opening act show up on time, stay out of the way, be nice to anyone you meet and then put on a great show. Also, be aware of how fortunate you are to go out and play music for people. Whether it's 5 people or 5,000. And lastly have fun, these are once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Final question: You're the opening act of a music festival. You can get any five artists, living or dead, to perform on the bill with you. Which five acts do you choose and what song do you all perform together for the final jam?
Easy. Tracy Chapman, Freddie Mercury, Kings of Leon, Kendrick Lamar, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. You end with a group singalong to "Fast Car."
