Did you know that if you want to see a pyramid, you don't have to go all the way to Egypt? Visit Cherokee County says this pyramid has been a Murphy fixture since 1930. Hitchcock Coit (how cool of a name is that?) had the pyramid erected to honor her grandfather, ARS Hunter, the first white settler in that area. Hunter was the first postmaster of Murphy, operated a ferry, and instituted a trading post so the Cherokee could trade with the soldiers. His name, his wife's name, and their niece's name are all inscribed on the 25-foot-tall pyramid.

Most people in Murphy believe the three are buried beneath the pyramid.
