Indie singer-songwriter Briston Maroney is currently opening for Mt. Joy on a trek that will bring them to Isle Of Palms, SC's Windjammer on May 16, 18, and 19th. We caught him last night as the show rolled into Rougemont's Orange County Speedway.

Maroney put on one helluva show. He played all the crowd favorites like "Caroline," "Freeway," "Bottle Rocket," and our personal fave "It's Still Cool If You Don't," before ending the show with the song that got the whole crowd singing, "Freakin' Out On The Interstate."

His touring band, consisting of a possibly-14-year-old lead guitarist, one of his friends from childhood on bass, and a guy who may look like Maroney from behind, but looks like Blake from Workaholics from the front, were tight and sounded great.

The crowd, consisting mostly of teenagers, ate up Maroney's humorous banter between songs, and sang along to every song, not just the finale. In fact, it looked like there were more people there to see Briston Maroney than the headliner.

I know we were.
