About a mile before you reach Burlington's infamous Cum Park Plaza sign, you'll find a sign that hardly anyone notices, greeting folks coming from Haw River to Burlington. It consists of a railroad track, which then rises at a 45 degree angle, with a handcar on top. Welcome City Of Burlington, the sign reads. But what does it mean?

We don't know either.

Welcome to the City of Trainwrecks?

  1. It has been removed, not sure why or who took it.

  2. It's because Burlington was a railroad town. The rail station in Burlington transported goods far and wide and was a big part of Burlington's textile identity.
