Unless you spent 2021 under a rock, you have to be very familiar with the song "abcdefu." It was everywhere. When we found out Gayle, the seventeen-year-old singer behind the worldwide #1 smash, was in town, we had to check her out!

The rain had just stopped a few minutes before she hit the stage of the sold-out Red Hat Amphitheater. She woke up the soggy crowd with a trio of songs from her just released debut EP, a study of the human experience volume one.

She had great chemistry with the band and the crowd, and even stopped the show at one point to make sure a little boy could receive a pick. But it was her set's last quarter that was the standout. First off was "Indie Edgy Cool Kid," a song she wrote to her detractors, the ones who didn't like the fact that she scored a #1 song. Then came a kickass version of Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation," one that started slow and soulful before kicking in. Then came "Snow Angels," a song I loved. Finally, it was time to play the song that earned her a spot on the tour, "abcdefu." It had the entire crowd belting along at the top of their lungs.

If you have the chance to catch Gayle in concert, make sure you do so!
