Following the release of his WHO CARES? album in March of this year, Rex Orange County decided to take his talents across the pond for his first North American tour. Selling out venues across the country, the Red Hat Amphitheater in Raleigh was no different.

A capacity of almost 6,000, the venue was sold out well in advance. Staff even reported that eager fans had been waiting in line since just after sunrise, ignoring the devastating North Carolina heat all day and quick burst of thunderstorms that evening. The crowd was unbothered by his slightly off-schedule start time, enjoying the post-rain weather and sunset, as well as singing along to the chosen music playing over the speakers in lieu of an opening act.

The music finally stopped and right on queue the crowd erupted. Without earbuds in already I likely wouldn't have heard the beginning of the set. The bulk of the band walked on first in their matching all-white outfits, just in time for Rex Orange County himself to bounce on stage wasting no time to start the fun.

Matching the energy of nearly 6,000 people is no easy feat yet was done effortlessly by Alexander O'Connor. His passionate fanbase knowing the words to each song as well as he blew up not only the venue but all of downtown Raleigh, his music being felt from blocks away. Transcending genres, Rex Orange County has the versatility to cater to any music lover, making his shows well worth the price of admission.
