Seeking Myrtle Beach's Grand Strange is a ten-part series by author Jim MacKenzie where he visits and writes about strange attractions in the Myrtle Beach area. In this installment, MacKenzie checks out the Horry County Museum.

The Horry County Museum is a great place to learn about the natural history of the native and non-native peoples of the area.

The museum's welcoming centerpiece, a 4,400 gallon, freshwater aquarium, helped the center achieve a little bit of fame after being featured on the Animal Planet channel. The stars of the hit show Tanked built and installed the aquarium at the entrance to the museum. Walk in the front doors and you can't miss it. The aquarium is filled with many varieties of local fish that inhabit the streams and rivers of Horry County.

If you watch the episode, you'll learn the aquarium is a very unique design, featuring an aquarium-in-another-aquarium construction to keep certain fish away from each other.

Admission to the museum is free.
