On Thursday night, a ten-foot-tall inflatable fish rose as The Beths took the stage to a Stardew Valleyesque rendition of "Future Me Hates Me" before they kicked off the show with that song. Led by lead vocalist Elizabeth Stokes, the New Zealand band delivered a phenomenal performance at the sold-out Cat's Cradle.

The Beths went directly from opening for The National on their tour to headlining their own tour with the Madison, Wisconsin band Disq. They played a majority of the songs from 2022's Expert In A Dying Field in anticipation of the release of the deluxe version of that album by Carpark Records on September 15th.

While introducing the band, Stokes told the crowd that Thursday was the birthday of guitarist Jonathan Pearce. After introducing drummer Tristan Deck and bassist Benjamin Sinclair, Sinclair took that time to mention his Instagram account where he reviews food on tour.

This was my second time seeing The Beths this year and I can't say a negative thing about either performance. Aside from being amazing musicians, their banter between songs is entertaining as well. Not every band is as good live as they are on their albums, but I'd argue The Beths are even better live because you can feel the energy that each band member is pouring into their performance.
