Shakey Graves brought the heat to the Ritz Raleigh on Sunday night. Graves, born Alejandro Rose-Garcia, released his debut album back in 2011 as a one-man band. He brings a ton of energy and emotion to the stage and the fans soak it all in.
He immediately grabbed the attention of the crowd opening up with several songs off his 2018 album, Can’t Wake Up, including “Foot of Your Bed”, “Counting Sheep” and “Excuses.”
Graves continued with songs off several of his albums throughout his set. He was joined on stage with five band mates, including: Patrick O’Connor, Matt Pence, Taylor Craft, Dancey Jenkins, and Cameron Neal.
Four songs from the forthcoming album Movie of the Week were rocked on stage. It was really cool to hear these live, great vibes on each of the songs including “Ready or Not”, “Evergreen” and “Big in the World.” This is good stuff, due to be released in September.
The biggest highlight for me was seeing and hearing Graves going back to his one-man band beginnings. He closed out the night with several solo songs, playing his suitcase drum along with his guitar.
The night ended with the band rejoining him on stage for “Dearly Departed.” If you missed this show, you will have another opportunity soon to catch this great band. Shakey Graves will be touring the new album starting in September with a stop in Charlotte on November 5.
