It was very cool seeing Fishbone on stage again at the Ritz Raleigh last month opening for Parliament Funkadelic. I first photographed Fishbone in 1993 when they were part of Lollapalooza and then caught their show again the following year at the Ritz.

Angelo Moore and Walter Kibby

This is a fantastic lineup with Angelo Moore front and center on vocals and sax. And great to see Christopher Dowd back on the keys along with John Norwood Fisher on bass and Walter Kibby on trumpet. The band is rounded out with John Steward on drums and Mark Phillips on guitar.

The energy Fishbone brings to the stage is crazy. The only thing missing from this set was the mosh pits from the old shows.

They opened their set with “Estranged Fruit” one of the six songs on their new self-titled EP, released in May. Also, off the new record, they played “All We Have Is Now” and “I Don’t Care.”

It was fantastic to hear the new music, but “Alcoholic,” and “Everyday Sunshine” brought in the crowd singing at the top of their lungs and swaying with the music.
