It was a cool, misty evening in Chapel Hill last night. Inside Local 506, it was sweltering because EKKSTACY and his band were in town.

ALEXSUCKS took the stage first to warm up the crowd. The fans that arrived early to hear them were treated to a great set of garage dance-punk. ALEXSUCKS had the whole place singing their finale and SIRUS XM hit, "6 Pack And Cigarettes."

Joined by his backing band, twenty-two-year-old Canadian EKKSTACY hit the stage around 9:30 PM, grabbing the mic and never letting his foot off the accelerator.

In intereviews, EKKSTACY lists bands like the Misfits and the Cure as inspiration and you can definitely hear it in his music.

The crowd knew every word to every song, even the songs from the self-titled album that was just released last month. EKKSTACY's band tore through the songs, but did slow it down for a mini two-song acoustic set near the beginning of the show. The band closed the show with a three-song encore, with the last two songs providing some of the most aggressive moshing of the evening.

After the show, EKKSTACY asked fans to meet him at the arcade. I didn't join them, but I will definitely be at the next EKKSTACY show that comes to town.

Strange Carolinas started as a hobby for Chris Hocker who often dragged his family to offbeat detours on family vacations. Hocker decided to start photographing and writing about these roadside attractions and in June 2014, launched Strange Carolinas with a story on Myrtle Beach's KISS Coffeehouse. In addition to chronicling over 400 attractions across the Carolinas, Strange Carolinas has also become an impressive music blog.
