The Vaccines
On Friday The Kooks played in North Carolina for the first time since 2015. Along with The Vaccines and Daisy the Great, the bands sold out the Orange Peel in Asheville. With a bill as stacked as this one, I’m not at all surprised that this show sold out.
Daisy The Great
Even with a limited set, Daisy the Great certainly did their share in making sure the crowd was warmed up. It was clear that most of the people at the show were previously unfamiliar with Daisy the Great, but it didn’t take long at all for them to win the crowd over. They delivered such an amazing performance that I even overheard the guy next to me say that they “sounded like a headlining act.”
The Vaccines
After Daisy the Great, The Vaccines delivered a fast-paced set that kept the crowd moving. Their five-piece band really worked the stage. The Vaccines played a handful of songs from their album that came out last month, Pick-Up Full Of Pink Carnations, and also played some songs from their first two albums as well. The crowd enjoyed dancing along to the new songs, but “I Always Knew” was undeniably a fan favorite.
The Kooks
The Kooks began their headlining set with Luke Pritchard coming out solo to begin “Seaside” and as the song continued, the rest of the band trickled on stage. The UK band gave an entrancing performance that included a three-song encore. The Kooks hadn’t played in North Carolina in years and you could feel the anticipation in the room. It was a pleasure to hear two-thirds of their debut album Inside In/Inside Out, which turned 18 in January, along with a few tracks from their newer releases.
