On Wednesday, Otoboke Beaver played one of the most badass shows Charlotte's Underground has ever seen with help from Drinking Boys And Girls Choir and North Carolina locals Babe Haven. Hailing all the way from Japan and South Korea respectively, Otoboke Beaver and Drinking Boys And Girls Choir brought the energy for their fourth-to-last night of their US tour.
For each night of their tour, the two bands chose a band local to the area to open for them. For their Carrboro and Charlotte dates, Babe Haven were in charge of warming up the crowd for Otoboke Beaver and Drinking Boys And Girls Choir. And that they did! I am no stranger to Babe Haven, seeing as they formed and played countless shows in my college town. I heard several people in the crowd raving about them after seeing them perform for the first time.
I had a similar reaction to seeing Drinking Boys And Girls Choir perform. Their stage presence blew me away. Not only were they amazing musicians, but they had so much fun interacting with the crowd. At one point the bassist approached the barricade and handed her microphone to one fan and her bass to another and proceeded to crowd surf. This three-piece won me over.
Otoboke Beaver was just as excited to be in North Carolina as the fans were to be at the show. They voiced their excitement and mentioned the sold-out show they played in Carrboro the night before, but not without mentioning their love for Supertramp. Every musician was very talented, but like in Drinking Boys And Girls Choir, the drummer sang while playing the most impressive beats. This was an incredible set and unforgettable show!
