On Sunday night, Disciple brought church to the church! Visiting Plymouth Church in Raleigh, Disciple put on a free show for several hundred of their fans.
Kevin Young
Founding member and singer Kevin Young fronts this band and shows the same energy on stage as he did back 20 years ago when I first saw them in concert at Cornerstone NC.
Andrew Stanton
The band opened the night with “Panic Room” from their 2016 album, Long Live The Rebels. Later in the show they did “Erase,” “God Is With Us” and “Darkness Dies” off the same album.
Joey West
The band is rounded out with Andrew Stanton and Josiah Prince on guitars, and Joey West on drums. This current lineup came together in 2012-13 and has jelled most excellently. These guys sound great and look like they enjoy being on stage together.
Josiah Prince
Throughout the night, Disciple played half a dozen songs off their latest album, Skeleton Psalms, which was released in 2023. Man, these new songs sound great, including “The Executioner,” “Bad Words” and the last song of the night, “Bow Down.”

My favorite song from this show was “Radical.” This is one of those melt your face off songs, and Disciple did not disappoint with this one. They had the crowd singing along and bouncing off each other to the chorus of:
Till the day I die
With my heart, with my soul
Till the day I die I’ll be a radical
With my blood, with my bones
Till the day I die I’ll be a radical
Josiah Prince
When I asked Young about doing smaller shows like this as compared to a couple festivals that the band performed at in the last two months, each with more than 15,000 people in attendance, this is what he had to say.
“We like 'em both, with this one we get to do more of what we really like to do, which is evangelize and talk about our faith. But both are great opportunities. There’s not really a show that we don’t like, we’ve kind of learned how to love it all really.”
Kevin Young
I am an old school Disciple fan and really dig their music from the early years. Unfortunately, none of those songs were played this night. But, this is one metal band that loves to rock and loves to share their faith from stage. I had a blast!
