America's Local Band, Cheekface, performed at the sold-out Cat's Cradle Back Room on Easter Sunday, which also happened to fall on 4/20. While there were a few college students wearing bunny ears at the show, there were probably even more who were celebrating 4/20 earlier that evening.

After a great opening act by Pacing, Cheekface--guitarist/lead vocalist Greg Katz, bassist/backing vocalist Amanda Tannen, drummer Mark Edwards, and touring keyboardist/percussionist Alex Johnson from the band Why Dogs Why--took the stage. They kicked things off with "Popular 2," ended with "Living Lo-Fi," and in between, put smiles on everyone's faces.

Cheekface, known for their quirky, dry humor and indie sounds, filled the Cradle with music and the fans lapped it up, danced it off, and had a hell of a time. During their ninety-minute set, the band played many fan favorites, including "I Feel So Weird!" from 2022's Too Much To Ask, which was requested via Instagram from a fan and marked the first time the song had been perfomred on this tour.

They also sprinkled snippets of other artists' songs throughout the set. At the end of "Featured Singer," they performed "Cha-Cha Slide" and the entire floor of the Cradle did the dance with Greg Katz. They mixed some of Chappell Roan's "Pink Pony Club in with their own song, "We Need A Bigger Dumpster." Finally, in lieu of McKinley Dixon's rapping in "Military Gun," Alex Johnson sang the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Give It Away."

It was a very fun evening of singing, shouting, and dancing. It's been awhile since I've seen people having this much fun at a show. If America's Local Band comes to your town, buy a ticket. And buy a shirt too while you're at it.

Strange Carolinas started as a hobby for Chris Hocker who often dragged his family to offbeat detours on family vacations. Hocker decided to start photographing and writing about these roadside attractions and in June 2014, launched Strange Carolinas with a story on Myrtle Beach's KISS Coffeehouse. In addition to chronicling over 400 attractions across the Carolinas, Strange Carolinas has also become an impressive music blog.
