Thursday evening, Evan Honer played a sold-out show at Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh. The independent artist is known primarily for his viral cover of “Jersey Giant,” originally by Tyler Childers. He has had great success since with his original songs including “Foolin’ Ourselves” from his 2023 album West on I-10 and “idk shit about cars” from his 2024 album Fighting For. Honer has been working with other country and indie-Americana artists which has led to “Take Me as I Come” with Wyatt Flores and “My Expense” with Cameron Whitcomb.

The Arizona native captivated the sold-out crowd with his backflips and energy on stage. He surprised everyone by stopping during a song to play Rock, Paper, Scissors with a “fan” who he later said was a friend. During “Jersey Giant,” Honer brought out his opening act, Barrett, to perform with him. They seemed genuinely good friends as Barrett brought Honer out earlier in the night to sing with him.

Barrett opened the show for Honer. He is a North Carolina native from the town of Boone! He falls into the same genre as Honer, Flores, and Whitcomb. He has previously worked with Honer on the song “Evergreen Lover,” which they performed together Thursday night. His latest song is “Appalachian Home,” from his upcoming EP release Appalachian which will be available on May 30th of this year.

Barrett met with fans at his merch table when his set was over before heading back on stage to sing with Honer. After the show ended, Honer stuck around to talk and take pictures with fans.

Less than a week earlier, Honer performed at the High Water Festival in Charleston, South Carolina. He is not stopping anytime soon with many more shows left on his tour. He will have support from Barrett, Winyah, and Willie Pearl throughout his tour. You can check here to see where he will be next! He is even traveling to the UK and EU in August!
