Chase Atlantic will release their sophomore album, PHASES, on June 28th but first they will be perform at The Underground Charlotte on June 19th. We caught up with rhythm guitarist Christian Anthony to talk about his dream music festival, the Australian battle chant, and "Sexy Land."

Describe your music for our readers who may not be familiar with you.
Chase Atlantic's sound is a hybrid of R&B, rock, and pop. The music creates an almost dreamlike atmosphere that exaggerates reality.

What's the first concert you attended?
A festival that featured the bands America, The Beach Boys, and Chicago.

What's the strangest gig you've played?
We've certainly had our fair share of interesting gigs. We've had a couple of times playing in the middle of nowhere, in a huge room and only 100 or so kids showing up. (Those shows can actually end up being some of the best). We played a pretty strange festival in The Netherlands as well. The place was absolutely beautiful, and the show was great. It was when we were riding back through the grounds we noticed the huge nudist beach in the middle of the festival, with the signs all pointing to "sexy land" as well as a marching band selling hotdogs. Definitely hoping they'll have us back next year as we didn't get to check out "sexy land."

What's the craziest thing a fan has done at one of your shows?
People are crazy. We all are. We all do crazy things sometimes. So I can't think of one particular moment that stands out. Maybe just girls trying to get up on stage.

What's the first thing you look for when you hit a new town?
Depends what time of the day. On the last tour Mitchel (lead vocalist) had damaged his spine pretty severely, so he was banned from loading in the gear. So if we arrive in the morning we would set up and Mitchel would grab us coffees with Ryan (our photographer).

If it's late in the night we are most likely looking for a Barcade of some sort. Not hard to find in America. They have an abundance of them.

How do you spend your days on the road?
We are all pretty reclusive and to ourselves when we are driving on the road. Making music in our bunks, Clinton (lead guitar, saxophone) probably editing some visuals. Not a lot of free days on our tours. But if we do have a free day, we will look to find a national park or a beach. Anything that brings us closer to nature.

Do you have any pre-show rituals?
Yes. A shot of fireball whiskey and the Australian battle chant. "Aussie Aussie Aussie OI OI OI"

What's some advice you'd give to a band embarking on its first tour?
Respect each other's personal space. Love your band mates. Respect your crew. These are your brothers and sisters. No matter what.

Final question: You're the opening act of a music festival. You can get any five artists, living or dead, to perform on the bill with you. Which five acts do you choose and what song do you all perform together for the final jam?
David Bowie, The Weeknd, Tame Impala, Queen, and The Rolling Stones. Final jam: "Bohemian Rhapsody."
