Jockey's Ridge is the tallest active sand dune on the east coast. It is a massive, moving natural beast, covering over 420 acres with sand. Standing on certain parts of Jockey's Ridge during the off-season will make you feel like you're alone in the desert.

Rumor has it that there are all kinds of crazy things buried in the sand, including an old hotel that was eaten by the dune. But the only thing for certain underneath the dune is the remnants of the Miniature Golf On The Hill mini-golf course. The course's deteriorating castle can still be seen peeking through the sand.

In September of 2019, the Library of Congress released the photographs of John Margolies into the public domain. Margolies spent years visiting and photographing roadside attractions across the United States. Below are some of the shots he took of Miniature Golf On The Hill, including a photo of what the castle looked like back in the day.
