Supergroup boygenius captivated a passionate audience at Wilmington's picturesque Live Oak Bank Pavilion on Wednesday evening.
boygenius, consisting of indie superstars Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus, formed in 2018 and released an EP later that year. After taking a few years off to focus on their solo endeavours, boygenius reformed earlier this year to record and release their first full-length album, the record, and embark on a tour, the tour, that is selling out many of its dates.
After an entertaining set by Bartees Strange, Thin Lizzy's "The Boys Are Back In Town" blasted through the pavilion. The band then appeared on the video screen to perform the acapella "Without You Without Them." After that, boygenius hit the stage, the crowd went insane, and they launched into "$20" with Baker on lead.
Along the way, the band played the entire the record album, including mega alternative radio hit "Not Strong Enough." The show ended with a song from each member's solo repertoire: Dacus's "Please Stay," Baker's "Favor," and Bridgers's "Graceland Too." The band doesn't have any dates in the Carolinas left on the current tour, but if you have a chance to catch boygenius at one of their remaining US dates, do so!
