Slow Pulp rolled in dressed as Scooby-Doo and the gang to a sold out Motorco Music Hall just a few days before Halloween. Opening for them was Babehoven who were dressed as Luigi, with not a Mario in sight. I loved both bands’ costumes and their performances. I was not previously familiar with the New York duo Babehoven, so their set served as a stunning introduction and I will definitely be adding some of their music into my rotation.

Almost exactly one year ago, I got to see Slow Pulp live for the first time opening for Alvvays. At the time I had just begun listening to them and fell in love with them after seeing them live. Then when the singles for Yard were released, my love for Slow Pulp only grew, as did my need to see them live. The lead single “Cramps” was probably the song I was most anxious to see live. And the song was perfectly executed, just as I suspected!

Their set was made up mostly of songs from Yard, their sophomore album that came out last month, which I would consider a standout release of 2023. Slow Pulp also mixed in a few songs from their first album, Moveys. I was really looking forward to hearing “Cramps” and “Fishes” and was hoping to hear “Montana” (again) and they didn’t disappoint once. I was especially excited to see lead singer and guitarist Emily Massey pull out a harmonica for “Broadview!”
