Winona Fighter brought its Yes, Chef tour to a packed and sweaty Kings in Raleigh on July 8th.

Winona Fighter--frontwoman Coco Kinnon, lead guitarist Dan Fuson, and bassist Austin Luther--released their debut album, My Apologies To The Chef, on Valentine's Day. A deluxe version will come out on July 10th which will feature a new song, "(Don't Get) CLOSE," and two covers (hopefully the one they played last night!).

When Winona Fighter took the stage at Kings, you knew instantly it was going to be a hell of a show. From the opening sounds of "You Look Like A Drunk Phoebe Bridgers," the band put its foot on the accelerator and never looked back. They were fast, loud, and unapologetic. Winona Fighter played the entirety of My Apologies To The Chef along with a cover of Beastie Boys' "Sabotage." The band has an unparalleled chemistry. They looked like a band that had been together for twenty years up on that stage.

The crowd was super into Winona Fighter. When the fans wasn't moshing and stagediving (thanks to the world's most polite stagediver, who asked permission between songs), they were singing along to the songs with all their might, shaking the second story of 14 W. Martin Street. Coco proclaimed several times that this was the best stop on the tour. I think she might have been right.

Strange Carolinas started as a hobby for Chris Hocker who often dragged his family to offbeat detours on family vacations. Hocker decided to start photographing and writing about these roadside attractions and in June 2014, launched Strange Carolinas with a story on Myrtle Beach's KISS Coffeehouse. In addition to chronicling over 400 attractions across the Carolinas, Strange Carolinas has also become an impressive music blog.
