Sunday night was the most packed I had ever seen The Grey Eagle in Asheville, North Carolina. There were about 20 people waiting outside the Geese show moments before their set still hoping to snag an extra ticket from someone walking in late. Tickets for the Asheville Geese show sold out in less than a day, which was not surprising given the intimacy of The Grey Eagle, but I can see why the band didn’t choose to play at a larger venue.



The intimacy that The Grey Eagle provided for the night made the show so much more special. Geese took every chance to interact with the crowd, including Cameron Winter, the band’s lead singer, swapping shirts with a fan whose shirt read “There’s a BOMB” in reference to “Trinidad,” the second single from their latest release, Getting Killed.



As Geese is wrapping up the North America leg of their Getting Killed World Tour, they played all but one track on the album, “Cobra”, which I truthfully was a bit disappointed about not being able to hear. Aside from playing mostly tracks from the album they are touring, they also played a handful of songs including “Cowboy Nudes,” which was one of my favorites to hear them play live when I saw them last August opening for King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.

Dove Ellis, which was an unfamiliar name to me, made for a wonderful opener for the night. As someone who is around the same age as the members of Geese, it is so amazing to watch them gain recognition for being such an awesome live act.
