On Friday, February 6th, UK indie band The Wombats brought their Oh! The Tour to a packed Ritz Raleigh. It's been eight long years since The Wombats performed in North Carolina at the Cat's Cradle, but they more than made up for it with three North Carolina dates in four days.

The Wombats--lead singer and guitarist Murph, bassist Tord Ă˜verland Knudsen, and drummer Dan Haggis--have released six studio albums: 2007's A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation, 2011's This Modern Glitch, 2015's Glitterbug, 2018's Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life, 2022's Fix Yourself, Not the World, and Oh! The Ocean, which was released on Valentine's Day in 2025, followed by a deluxe edition of Oh! The Ocean in October.

At shortly after 9:00 PM, the trio hit the stage and launched into "Moving To New York." Along the way, they played many crowd favorites like "Sorry I'm Late, I Didn't Want To Come," "Pink Lemonade," "Kill The Director," "Blood On The Hospital Floor," "Lemon To A Knife Fight," "If You Ever Leave, I'm Coming With You," "Greek Tragedy," and "Let's Dance To Joy Division." During "Ready For The High," someone dressed as a wombat came from backstage and "played" the trombone.

After "Pink Lemonade," the band learned how to properly pronounce Raleigh (Dan Haggis had been referring to us as Rally all night). One of the many highlights of the night was when Murph performed "Lethal Combination" solo and acoustic. Personally, my favorite moment of the evening was the one-two punch of the encore: "Greek Tragedy" and "Let's Dance To Joy Division."

The band sounded great. If you have a chance to see The Wombats live, do it! You won't be disappointed.

Strange Carolinas started as a hobby for Chris Hocker who often dragged his family to offbeat detours on family vacations. Hocker decided to start photographing and writing about these roadside attractions and in June 2014, launched Strange Carolinas with a story on Myrtle Beach's KISS Coffeehouse. In addition to chronicling over 400 attractions across the Carolinas, Strange Carolinas has also become an impressive music blog.
