Flatwoods, West Virginia is home to The Green Monster. No, not that Green Monster.

1n 1952, a fireball fell to Earth in Flatwoods. Some high school boys saw it and followed it to a nearby hill. When they got there, they were met by a 10-foot creature that spewed smoke from its red spade-shaped head. The monster has not been seen since.

The Green Monster also goes by the name Braxxie (which seems to be something the local tourism board concocted) and the more well-known Flatwoods Monster. Its numerous identities might be a reason he's never received the major motion picture treatment like his buddy a few counties to the west, The Mothman.

I do find it interesting that both "monsters" have been written off by scientists as birds. Given its red eyes, they feel the Mothman is a Sandhill Crane while the Flatwoods Monster may have been a barn owl.
